I have a few minor problems.....none of them anything more than annoyances. When I boot up, windows opens My Computer and displays the C drive. Also, whenever my computer asks for the Windows 98 CD, it first searches the nonexistent A drive....the floppy. Since it is not there, it hangs, for a long time. I can still access the CD, about five minutes later, but I hate waiting that long. And, even if I copy the CD to the hard drive, it doesnt stop the freezing. Help!

That 'might' be caused by a Windows quirk. It can be caused if you have a folder on the desktop named 'Program'.

Try going to your setup and changing the boot sequence. That's probably why it goes to your A drive first. Hope this helps.

To stop that a: drive nag, run REGEDIT and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Setup

On right hand screen, scroll down to SourcePath. Right click and choose Modify. Then in Value Data box, type C:\WINDOWS\PRECOPY or c:\windows\options\cabs or e: or wherever you want windows to look instead of the a: drive.

For your problem with C: drive opening at bootup...try this

Run REGEDIT and navigate to...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Look in the right pane for an entry called DesktopProcess.

Delete it and reboot.

Good luck

A further note to the fix from Krystyna (who probally has the right fix)is that there is also another two items I know of that may cause explorer to open at bootup and they are also found in the same key at: "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer" key

SeparateProcess
BrowseNewProcess

If you find either of the following, backup the key then delete the entry and re-boot.
