Comment: Hi, I used my recovery cd to reinstall my windows98se after I was unable to restart my pc. However, I now cannot start programs such as Word, Excel and others although I have the .exe file in certain folders. Is there anyway that I don't need to reinstall all those applications because their excuables are still still there somewhere in the hard drive? I tried to click Work from the start button, but it said "Windows Installer cannot install this, please consult your systems administrator". The "administrator" is obviously myself.... Thanks, Kevin

Reply: (edit)By any chance, is this a Compaq Presario? If so, what model? Did you use the Compaq Recovery CD, or a Quick Restore CD?

Reply: (edit)At the bottom of this page, download Exefix08.inf Select the file, right mouse, install http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Reticulated/Only_IE.html This should repair the problem.

Reply: (edit)What is the HP Pavilion's model number? Did you do a 'Format and Recover', or a 'Recover Only'? Was there a 'Driver and Application Recovery' window available on the Recovery CD, where you coukd click the 'Applications' tab and select the programs from the list ?
