I'm trying to get updates for my Windows 98 computer but I'm not sure if its a 98 or a 98SE model. I bought it about 4 years ago and dont want to download the wrong updates. Under the System Properties , General Tab it says Microsoft Windows 98 4.10.1998 . I guess this means its 98 and not 98SE correct? Where can I upgrade? Is there an online charge for it? Sorry for being ignorant, any help is appreciated.

Yea, that's Windows 98, not 98Se because mine says :
Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition 4.10.2222 A
www.microsft.com has all the updates you nned exept for a sertain program. Hope that helped!

You can now order all the security and certain other updates for Win98 and 98SE on CD. Cost is free, and it will help with any reinstalls you have. CD also includes the same for Win ME users.
British/Irish Republic users should make sure they give their real country so they input details in the UK version of the ordering page - this will ensure MS complies with European data protection law and opt you out of their spam by default. If you lie about your country, you will end up at the US site and be ordering under US law, which will violate your data and your home privacy.

Where can I order these CD's that have the upgrades for Win 98? I checked at the Microsoft site but didnt see any upgrade CD's for sale, at Ebay I saw many 98 upgrade CD,s and also 98SE CD's for sale but they want $40 and up. I heard that back in January Microsoft decided to stop supporting Win 98. Is this why the $25 upgrade CD's (previously offered) are going for $40+ on E-bay? Isnt there a CD overstock warehouse somewhere on the net selling older software? One of the reasons I want to upgrade is because while trying to install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard software on an IBM Win 98 I got DLL errors and messages about my "libraries" not being correct. So I figured that maybe if I upgrade to 98 SE that would solve many of my install DLL, Driver errors.? Is this correet or would it be easier to pursure installation of these softwares using other means than upgrading to 98SE? Like maybe installing a DLL or getting an older version of Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard?

First thing I suggest is install the VB6 Runtime Libraries, which is probably what they meant? Get it from here, download and save first, then install: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=28337&area=top&ordinal=9
Then see how the programs work, come back with specific error messages if you still have problems.

I believe I may have already downloaded this VB runtime a few days ago or maybe it was a few DLL files? -I'm not sure. If I reinstall this VB6 runtime from Microsoft over the other VB runtime would that be OK? or do I need to uninstall what I already installed before? I dont see it in add/removed files.

You simply install over the top, there is no uninstall for these. My link is to the latest release.
