Hi!
I have done a clean 98 install to my Compaq Armada 1573 laptop and it goes well, but windows won't start. It don't give any messages, it just stops loading and freezes. I think that it's video driver, because i can start to the safemode, but i just can't see videocard or monitor in control panels device list. Bios still finds the card.
I have downloaded drivers from Compaq-support site, but i still can't install them, because in safemode it is not allowed to install new devices! (drivers don't have any setup.exe etc...) Video card is C&T 68554.
What should i do next?

Thank you in advance.

I had the same problem on my PC Clone. I checked: disable all 32 bit protected mode disk drivers in the system propertuies, file system. The computer now boots and the network is working. But my floppy controller and primary and secondary controllers have yellow exclamation marks next to them and my cdrom drives do not work (Not even seen).
Every time I uncheck the box and reboot it hangs. I am still looking for the problem but perhaps this will help a little. Maybe it is not your video?

Thanks Brian
That really was in hard drive drivers (primary and secondary pci-ide). Now windows starts, when i have turned them off. Couldn't have still figured out, why it is like that?
