We have a 2 system network in the office. System1 has Win95 and system2 has Win98. System2 see both on the network, but system1 only sees system1. I've tried removing all components and reinstalling, but still get the same result. Any ideas?
Thanks
Dave

Perhaps your Win98 system is running on FAT32, in which case Win95 will not see it or be able to read the disk. Click on MyComputer, , Properties to check.

The file systems involved on drives/files etc. are of no consequence when networking the various drives/files; the network abstracts that info.

There are several possible reasons why things aren't working for you.

For example different protocols on each PC (system as you refer to them) meaning there is no common protocol. '95 installs NetBeui by default, '98 installs tcp/ip by default.

Conflicts between the AGP card and a PCI based NIC is another.

Motherboard chipsets sometimes require an update - particularly VIA chipsets, but not infrequently other makes too.

Helmig at:

http://www.wown.com aka htp://www.helmig.com

deals with most/all(?) of the various issues. Specifically it's all at:

http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/w98defpr.htm

and should point you to where/what is a miss...

If you're 'new-ish' to networking, or not entirely comfortable with the basics etc., then have a good read throguh Helmig's site - starting from the Home-page and trawl through - Basics and onwards.

wcdoc...

It isn't (usually) necessary to have (two or) both protocols installed... just a common protocol.

Possibly the reason you had problems was because each OS ('95 and '98) installs a different protocol by default - as outlined above..?
