I thought they already looked alike.

Which features of 98 in particular?

If you wish to remove the opening Windows 95 Logo, use a word processor to open the msdos.sys file and check for a line like Logo=1.If it is present change it to Logo=0.Add the line if it does not exist. You may have to remove the file attributes on the properties sheet of this file before you make the changes.Put them back as before after you have completed this work.Good luck.

If you can find a copy of Internet Explorer version 4 with Active Desktop, then you can have all windows open in the same pane like a web page and navigate back and forth, fools people into thinking you have 98, this also works for NT4.

Some Win98 programs that can be added to Win95 are Dr Watson, msconfig, scanreg, & SFC (system file checker). You can also add the WinME version of defrag, which runs MUCH faster than the Win95 or 98 versions.

drwatson.exe -- goes in System folder

------------

msconfig.exe -- goes in System folder
msconfig.chm -- goes in Help folder
msconfig.cnt -- goes in Help folder
msconfig.hlp -- goes in Help folder

------------

scanreg.exe -- goes in Command folder
scanreg.ini -- goes in Windows folder
scanregw.exe -- goes in Windows folder
scanreg.reg -- create the following file and merge it into your registry:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"ScanRegistry"="C:\\WINDOWS\\scanregw.exe /autorun"

--------------

sfc.exe -- goes in System folder
sfc.hlp -- goes in Help folder
sfcdll.dll -- goes in System folder
default.sfc -- goes in System folder

All of the above files can be copied from any Win98 machine. If you don't have access to a Win98 box, WinME Defrag & msconfig can be downloaded from surecool.com.

Don't forget power toys from microsoft. It has a couple of features such as tweakui and send to... that are really handy.

I am adding to this discussion. my boyfriend just bought me a brand new Philips/Nike PSA 128 MP3 player but it only works on Windows 98 it says. The software DID load onto my computer but then the songs would not download into the player. I guess this has something to do with the USB port. I do not want to add Windows 98 because my computer is old and runs very fast and affective on Windows 95. Is there something I could add to my computer to make it work with this PSA software and NOT upgrade it to 98? Can I trick my computer?

Lealison, Windows 95 Original version & Win95A had NO USB support, & Win95B & C had very little. I'm afraid that you're going to have to upgrade to Win98.

Note that many USB devices require Win98 Second Edition (USB2) support.
