920mb free space but can't save jpg

Comment:
my c drive has 920mb of free space yet it won't let me save a small jpg (says I'm out of space). I know 920mb is not much, but it is enough to save a pic, isn't it. I have a lot of free space on my d drive (have hd partitioned), but I am just wondering why it won't let me use my 920mb on my c drive

I'd run scandisk and see if things get corrected. Might be reporting the wrong amount of space.

I can't remember the details, but I think windows does not necessarily report disk space correctly. Like if you have a bunch of half empty clusters it reports them as half empty even though a cluster can only be occupied by one file, meaning that these half empty clusters are unusable.
2x explorer from download.com is how I manage my hard drives, as it does a more detailed job of telling who what folders and subfolders are taking up space

A lot of times this can be caused by having too many or too large files in your root directory.
Try clearing out some of the files at C:\ and see if that helps.

Yeah, clear \windows\temp, clear IE cache, uninstall uneeded progs, reboot, close everything except explorer and systray using ctrl+alt+del, run scandisk, defrag, reboot.

Well, as I understand it, there is a limit on the number of root directory entries - files and directories (but not subdirectories) of 512, but only if you're using the (pretty much) obsolete FAT16. With FAT32 I've heard either 'no limit' or else a limit of 65,536 entries.
Generally considered 'good housekeeping' to keep the root entries to a minimum though - can't hurt to delete/move some unecessary files.
