Please help. Using old 14" Aamazing monitor w\emachine. 800x600 resolution worked fine, now I can't get it to work. All I get is distorted multiple split screen with lines. Is there something I missed that I can do to fix this. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Sue

Tried to change the colors, didn't make a difference. It is Win98, in case that matters. Anything else I'm missing? Thanks

Old monitor. Did you mean it used to run okay on another system but not on Win98? If so, go to the mfg's site and get the latest drivers for it. If you just installed Windows98, you have to change the monitor Model and Video Adapter(driver) in Display/Properties/Advanced, windows won't do it automatically when it installs.
Whoops, I just found out that Aamazing is in recievership so you might not get new drivers, so check at Windrivers.com or other download sites.

Had a similar problem after downloading and installing some desktop themes from Microplus
98'. None of my dos gurus ever heard of the problem. A ten year old kid told me to go to the display properties in the control panel and change click on advanced tab. Manually slide the bar to the correct screen size and click apply. hope this will fix it for you. Also if you get bad command or file name errors when you log on just delete the autoexec.bat file that they created. Caio

This has worked for me a few times- Make a blind boot to safe mode by hiting f8 at the beep then hit 3 and enter. After a few min of hard drive activity safe mode comes up using a special vidio driver and a low resolution that is easy to sync to. Change the resolution to the same as what safe mode uses, reboot and change it back. If that dont work try removeing the vidio card from system (in safe mode) and reboot. Reinstall the drivers.

Often the refresh rate of your video card will make a difference on how your monitor display's your screen. Especially when wierd wavy lines are concerned .Try booting in Safe Mode, then go to the Display Settings in your Control Panel. Look for Refresh rate. It's probably under the Settings tab. If it says OPTIMAL, change it to ADAPTER DEFAULT. If it gives you a number, like 75 for example, try lowering it a notch to 72 or the next lower one. This might solve your problem.

Older monitors like that usually don't like a refresh rate over 60 hz. Without knowing which video card you're using, it's hard to say but check your refresh rate in display properties and try it, if that cures it, bring it back up slowly. If you lose it again use safe mode as before to reset it.
Good Luck !!

We have a similar problem to curlee and Sue. The color choices are 2 and 16 and the screen sizer (pixel-wise) won't change. It's stuck at 640x480. I bought a new computer that automatically installed Win98. I can't get it to recognize my keyboard's special features like sleep and wake nor can I get it to recognize our monitor. Please help us if you can.

The win98 driver I am using with my cm-8489gx is the standard win98 SUPER VGA 800 X 600.
I experienced the same problem as you if I try to stretch the picture to fill the screen using the adjusting knobs on the bottom of the monitor. If I leave it slightly smaller, I have no problem.
Screen setting is 640 x 480, there are no options for refresh rates with this driver.
