6 beeps ERROR

Specs: windows 98 se, 433/128MB
Hello I have a Powerspec model number 4720 computer With a Supermicro 370SWD motherboard inside it. My problem is that when I power up my computer I get 6 beeps and a blank screen.

Here is the info I know on this :

6 short beeps means KEYBOARD CONTROLLER ERROR.
I know the keyboard works because I have tried it on another computer.I also have tried a different keyboard.
None of this has seemed to work at all.

I have been told about re-seating the keyboard controller chip. How do I do this?
where is the chip?
Any other advice? I have no replacement system board.

At one time those chips were often socketed, and could be replaced.

Here's an old board with the chip marked in green

I don't believe that's the case any more - the board is likely scrap

Hey jboy ;>)

According to the manual for that board:

If it beeps... then ...
6 times reseat the keyboard controller chip. If it
still beeps, replace the keyboard
controller. If it still beeps, try a
different keyboard, or replace
the keyboard fuse, if the keyboard has one.

So it looks as though the chip is reseatable/replacable.

Hey Dan Penny

Nothing like having the manual - should be a diagram.

What about the controller chip?

Location found?

If found, and in a socket, did you reseat it?
