Does a 486DX2-66 running Win98, support large hard drives? I currently run a 420Mb unit, but wish to have at least 1 Gb.

DX2-66 Damn you must have a lot of patience!

Yes it will support large hard drives because win 98 uses FAT32.
Get at least a 2g because the cost of hard drives has gone down dramatically. I have seen 10gigs for $200$ unbelievable!!!!!

Howdy, Jdog is correct in that Win 98 supports FAT 32 which allows for large hard disk but you're BIOS is not going to support a large hard drive. You can use though a drive overlay program or purchase a BIOS upgrade card with goes into a open ISA slot. All new hard drives these days come with drive overlay programs. They have different names cause of the different drive makers but all do the same thing. The largest hard drive you're BIOS most likey will support is a 528meg drive and don't even think about getting a new BIOS just use the drive overlay program. IF you are not sure about any of this take it to a tech and have them do the work. If you have any more questions into this, just e-mail me.

Never heard about a BIOS-card, but you kan .htm take down a program from Maxtor http://www.maxtor.com/Maxtorhome(Max-blast), make a boot-disk from this program, install it on your harddisk and - thats it.
