Comment: I have an old 486/66 system on my FAN and want to set it up for the kids to do homework on. It had Win95 running but I tried to upgrade to WIN 98se. (It meets min requirments) When it finishes install and loads the last time it comes up with parity error and halts. Is that a real memory issue or a WIN 98 on a 486 issue.

Reply: (edit)I have 98SE on my "test" system which is a 486DX2/66, 400 MB HDD, and 20 MB of memory. It runs well. Dunno if it's a memory issue.

Reply: (edit)64 mb memory. It works fine at power up... Now I am qustioning if it is a 66 mhtz system. I though it was but AT&T.NCR seems to have placed several different processors in the Model 550 system. Will have to check when I get home.

Reply: (edit)Windows98 won't install unless you have a 66. It will refuse if you have below. What were you hoping to gain from windows 98 over windows95? All that usally is gained is worse performance. Also sometimes upgrades don't work. So try a fresh install with the win98 CD and it will ask for the win95 cD to verify that it is a legitimate upgrade
