Hopefully someone can help me with this. How do I get 256-color on Windows 95. I went into the my computer icon and it shows 16-bit. My monitor is a SuperVGA 800x600 CTX CMS-1561 MultiScan. Do I have to buy a new monitor to get the 256 colors? Does the 256 color matter?

As my name implies, I am new to this, so please speak slowly and non-technical.

8-bit color is 256 colors
16-bit color corresponds to 65536 colors.

From the information you have given it seems that
a) You thought that 256 colors is better than 16-bit color.
OR
b) You actually want to lower your color depth.
You should be able to modify your display settings by right-clicking in your desktop and selecting "Properties" from the popup menu.

I need help my computer went down. ever sence
i can not get my 256 color bit it only reads
2 and 16 i tryed every thing do i have to buy

I require help from someone with a little moniter experience - I have installed the full version of Windows 2000 on my PC, while formatting my Main (of 4) Drive, and re-installing Windows 98 with it, (so I can use Win 98 and 2000) But, despite having full color support for my Windows 2000 OS, I cant seem to gain the right support for my lousy 16 color windows 98 OS. How do I do this, do I need to install the correct drivers, OR WHAT?! I am greatly in need of any little help that can be offered, and please E-mail it to me only, becuase I do not check the news forum as often as I know I should. Thank you to anyone who helps!
