reinstall drivers for your video card, control panel- add hardware.

You shouldn't have to re-install any drivers! The setting was changed by your son, that's all.
Right click on your Desktop and select Properties. Then the Settings tab. Under "Colors" you can then select the color depth that you want. Reboot!
