This is a dumb question, but are normal win9x apps compatible with NT (or 2000)because I know NT is based on different technology, and 2000 is NT with the 98 gui. I'm considering upgrading from 98 to 2000 on my 600e. This is probably a duh question, but it can't hurt to be safe.

There is no guarantee that they will all work. If you are really concerned, I would suggest a dual boot system.

Most windows programs will work without much effort. Dos programs are a different matter. They need the shortcuts to be carefully tweaked before they work as you expect them to.
There will be no harm in trying it. You have the spare drive.

There si a 2000 compatibility list. unless they are very old applications they will probably be okay but, again, you can check.

I have found that most software will run OK. Hardware is the problem sometimes. There may or may not be drivers available for Win2000. I suggest that you check to see if drivers for your hardware are available. Printers and scanners can be problematic. I dual boot 98/2000 in order to use a Logitech Pagescan Color scanner that has no drivers available that will work with the NT kernal.

Most programs will run under 2K just fine unless you use old dos programs or old hardware why not install dual boot then install ALL the programs and hardware you want to use
if it all works reformat and install 2K again
2k is much much ,uch more stable and alot faster than 98 i hope you enjoy your new OS and it all works fine for you
you could check out the Hotstream project that hasa made an unofical SP5 for windows 2000 and may other update pakcs that install everything you will need such as IE6 DX9c ect
Summary: As I recall, w98 and w95 will not support multiple OSes, but NT and w2k will. So, you could load NT or 2000 and then both 95 and 98. Also, various Linux/Unix flavors support multiple boots. Finally, t...
