I loaded Windows 98 onto a computer that I aquired. It was wiped clean, so I had no problems, until I thought I'd get smart...
I took the modem out of another computer that I have (which I'm having troubles with) and put it into the computer I'm not having any trouble with. For some reason I had to move my monitor cable to a different port because it wasn't receiving any input. Now the computer thinks I have 2 monitors hooked up! And I believe it won't recognize the modem because of conflicting or sharing problems. I can't find a away to get rid of the '2nd' monitor. Any suggestions? (besides me keeping my day job)

The second phantom monitor shouldn't interfear with the modem installation. If the modem IS plug and play there is a good chance Win98 wouldn't have a driver available because the modem may be newer than Win98. Are you saying the modem does not show up in Device Manager at all? Is there an integrated modem on the motherboard?
Some motherboards allow you to disable some of the PCI slots. The PCI slot you are using may be disabled or reserved. Check in the BIOS. The second monitor can be removed in device manager. If this is truly a resource conflict the modem should show in device manager with a yellow askerisk.

"move monitor cable to different port" ???
Sounds like you have 2 video cards. Remove one of them.
