I used Tzedit before March 11 to patch my Win98SE machine, as well as WinNT 4.0 and 2000. On all these OS's the time went ahead TWO hours. I don't understand why. Under Win95(TZedit) and XP(KB update), the DST patches ran without a hitch.
I followed instructions that said after using TZedit you should change your time zone to something different and then back again. Maybe this caused it or maybe there's a fluke in these OS's. What do you think? Thanks to all who reply.

I can't tell you why but I do have a question. How long did it take to install the patch and how long would it have taken to manually reset? Makes sense if you have many computers to deal with.
My XP automatically updated.

OtheHill, the patch just takes a minute to implement, but without it, you have to manually reset the clock both now & in November, and (if you forget to disable the "automatically adjust my computer for DST" feature) you also will have to reset the clock on the old DST dates.
I've got a half dozen or so PCs that I maintain (not including the kids & grandkids), so it makes sense for me to install the patch.
After downloading the Windows 98 Resource kit onto 1 computer, just copy the TZEDIT.exe file to a floppy to fix the other PCs.

If a turtle doesn't have a shell, is he homeless or naked?

I used the tzedit.exe from the Win 98SE CD, which I found by using FC (File Compare) in 98SE to be identical to the one for Win 98 except for the file time and date stamp, on several computers with Win 98, 98SE, and ME. The two in my own house with 98SE on them updated DST fine and sprang one hour ahead yesterday - I haven't seen the others yet.

I downloaded the tool from Microsoft for my 2K machine, and it worked fine. It's not written for 98 or 95, which may be why it didn't work correctly.
Life's more painless for the brainless.

Not really:
... from 1987 through 2006, the start and end dates were the first Sunday in April and the last Sunday in October...
Starting in 2007, most of the United States and Canada observe DST from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November...
For those still interested, there's a 3rd party patch for 98 & ME - Win95 users remain SOL
I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.

Quoted from the Microsoft site:
(Win 95)
"Time Zone Editor (Tzedit.exe) is available on the OEM Service Release 2 CD-ROM. You can run this tool directly from the CD-ROM by double-clicking it in the Admin\Apptools\Tzedit folder on the CD-ROM."I suspect the Win 98/98SE version of tzedit.exe will work for Win 95 too, but I can't confirm that at the moment.

... I'll try to contain my anticipation

This reminds me of the invention I saw on cable. Some guy has a machine that gets a can of beer out of the frig and throws it to him. I guess he thinks that saves time. However, it probably took him months to build that machine. Plus, who wants to open a can of beer that was just thrown.

It's much easier to just train the dog to get you a beer.

Hi Guys and Gals,
FYI. Here is the site I found to be especially helpful when I did the DST update: http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/syste...
You will find versions of TZEdit here for all unsupported versions of Windows. And yes, I applied the update using TZedit for the appropriate OS's. By the way, the TZEdit for 98 works fine on 95. They say it was designed for 98 but on 95 it ran without a hitch; on 98 it put the clock two hours ahead(unless I overlooked something). Go figure!

Good to hear!

What you might have done is entered a 2 in the daylight bias box - take a look at your edited Time Zone with tzedit.
