I do not see a video card on my motherboard. I think my monitor runs only on drivers. Can anyone tell me a good one. I am running Windows 98 first edition AMD K6 processor. I have a Komodo Monitor. Got lots of RAM. I have to reformat my hard drive is the problem. Anyone got any ideas?

Follow the monitor cord to where it is plugged in at the back of the computer.
Then look at the motherboard.
The video chipset should be (not always... but should) in that area of the motherboard.
What kind of motherboard or computer do you have?

I'm not sure that I understand your problem. Usually you do not need to load a driver for the monitor.

If B.C.'s problem is the same I am experiencing just now, then here it goes a better description:
After formating HD and reinstalling W98, only 16 to 256 colors were available in video properties. In my case, it seems that a wrong drive is installed but if I try to install another driver W98 keeps telling me the best drive available is already installed!
Well, B.C., if this is not your case, go ahead and explain it. Anyway, I would appreciate any help for my problem.

Your description of the equipment is a bit slim, but it looks like you have on-board video (on the motherboard). When you reformatted you lost the video drivers. They are not included with the OS except for bottom end VGA operation. You need to reload the drivers from the motherboard driver CD if you have it or identify the board and download the drivers from the manufacturer's web site.

Humn...but how do I know which board is mine? Would it be "Award 531CF" in a small holographic label attached to the ISA slot (ISA? I mean that longer slot, bigger than the PCI) along with a serial number?

The sticker you are looking at is the BIOS version. You need to know the manufacturer and model of the motherboard. If you don't see the model stamped on the board somewhere, Click Here and download the Belarc Advisor. When run, it will identify most anything in the machine then you can download the drivers from the manufacturer's web site.
