Comment:
Since I have loaded Windows 98 onto my Dell, I only have 16 colors and the start up screen will not maximize. I am looking at a little box for my startup screen. What can I do to maximize?

Install the correct display and monitor drivers. You installed the default VGA drivers which are stuck at 16 colors and 640x480 resolution. After the drivers are installed you can readjust the screen size to fill the screen.

You need to get the drivers for your display adapter. Have a look in device manager, you will find it in control panel just double click on the system icon. Click the plus next to display adapters this should tell you the make and model of your display adapter. Then go on the net and look for the right drivers for it. This will give you more colours. And on the settings tab in display properties you should be able to increase the screen area.

K, you need to install your graphics card drivers, a cd usually comes with your product or on the restore cd there may be a section. To find out the name of your card go to Control Panel/System/Device manager/Display Adaptor. Hit the + sign by Display Adaptor and it will list your card. Type that name in www.google.com to find their homepage for the proper drivers if you do not have them. Good luck. :)

Theo: That's a good question. I was wondering about that too. I remember visiting that site several months ago when looking for some obscure driver files and had to mentally rebuke myself for the brain fade. It was then that I remembered to add "guide" and eventually found what I was searching for.
