If you are saying that you do not know where to make the change then Right click on any bare spot of your desktop and select Properties, go to the Settings tab and there you will find it if it is available.

hi i do not know what you have tried, to change color bits right click desk top/properties/settings. I have only 16bit or 32 bit and would not use 32bit it takes a lot more viedo ram and i mean alot more.

As said before you card might support 24-bit color, but not 24-bit color at a higher res... also your monitor maybe to blame.

e.g.

Card supports:
640x480 (256 colors/16-bit/32-bit)
800x600 (256 colors/16-bit)
1024x768 (256 colors)

There are other factors too such as your refesh rate... the higher the rate... the more "juice" it takes... so...

e.g.

640x480 @ 60hz = 256 colors/16-bit color
640x480 @ 75hz = 256 colors

Lastly... your monitor my limit what you can do... even though your card supports 1024x768 @ 75hz w/32-bit color... the monitor may only support 800x600 @ 60hz w/ 256 colors.

Hard to know without more info.
