You probably have bad system ram, replace ot swap it out and see if your error goes away.

I'm also enountering the exactly the same problem and error message. I reinstalled my Win98 and it still persists. It started happening after I plugged my sound card to the component. I've already removed the connection but it is still happening

I was able to fix the problem by turning off my INTERNAL CACHE in the BIOS, but I have a slow system now. I'm looking at the "overheating" or "bad driver" scenarios. I will post the cure if I find it.

Hi!

After reading about you problems about the following:-
Error Message: An Exception OD Has Occurred at VXD VMM(0H)+0004338 0028:C0005338

I too have this problem.
I have an AMD K6-2 (surprise)
Windows 98 2nd Ed. (latest update from microsoft)
Diamond 32Mb Stealth 3 (latest drivers)
20Gb Hardisk
128Mb Ram
ALi 542B Motherboard
PCI Soundcard (generic)

I visited Microsoft's website at:-
C:\My Documents\Error\Q256850 - Error Message An Exception OD Has Occurred at VXD VMM(0H)+00005B01 0028C0006B01.htm

Which was excellent. They found a problem in Windows 98, but the idiots haven't made it avaliable for download.

I have e-mailed AMD, Microsoft and Diamond for help, but they haven't replied.

If you can offer any assistance please let me know.

Regards:-
Iain Baillie.
