Comment:

OS = Windows 98 - 4.10.1998
Desktop problem = MMCPL - "Unable to Load Language Resources"
When opening the "Control Panel" icon I get a message that reads "Unable to Load Language Resources". No icons show up in the control panel until I click OK on the error message.

This started when I removed software for ATI's All in Wonder card.

I reinstalled Win 98 and used "System File Check" but the MMCPL error still pops up when I open "Control Panel".

Thank You

rk
run control.ini from your start menu and look for something that might relate to language resources under [MMCPL]

I'm not the brightest thing around but sorry, what do you mean by your "program window", do you mean Windows Explorer?

run control.ini from your start menu and look under the [MMCPL] heading for anything that looks like language resources. Place a semicolon plus a space in front of it or delete it.

(don't know how my last reply got into your post?!)

I fixed it---maybe?

I took the mmcpl.cpl file out of the Windows
System folder. When I rebooted I was flashed back to DOS and got a message saying a system file was missing and I was to hit a key to see if Windows would work (well..that's my version of what it said). Well, it continued to work and when I rebooted after that I had no more flashes to DOS or problems and the annoying screen is gone. I just hope that file isn't necessary!!
