Hi All
Suddenly, all my icons and files are arranged by size.. I tried to arrange them by name then make all folders like that folder, but when I reopen any folder I found it arranged by size.. I checked "remember each folder's view settings" but nothing happend! I "reset" and "restored defaults" but the same!!!!
how to make it arranged by name! plz help!
Donna :)

Assuming that you are arranging by going through the View Menu, try instead, clicking on the column Title bar within the Explorer View pane to arrange everything. Click it again and it will reverse the order that they appear.
Then go to View, Folder Options and select View tab and hit the 'Like current folder' button.

This is on a Windows '98, Second Edition system
My problem is that folders are displayed as I want them in Windows Explorer, but when I access a file via a program's Open option, the folder's contents are displayed in reverse alphabetical order with the sub folders at the end of the list.
I tried the "fix" suggested above, clicking the "title" bar in Explorer to change the order and then going to View/Folder Options menu then View tab, then Like Current Folder
I then tried opening a file with Notepad and the folder (My Documents) is still in reverse name order as are all other folders I look at.
Futhermore, if I use the right click menu to try and change the display order in the "open" window, I get screwy results.
If I simply select Arrange Icons and specify by name, nothing happens, that is, the order is not reversed from what it is.
But, if I change the display option to something else, say Large Icons, and then change the order (by name), the order is correct. I can then change the view option back to list (which I prefer) and the order remains correct.
But, if I open another file in the same program or another program, in the same diretory - the folder display in the "open" window has gone back to reverse alphabetical.
Any suggestions?
It is a bit irritating to have the names in reverse alphabetic order with the folders at the end.
Does anyone know which registery keys are used to store folder display options? Perhaps I can "clobber" some keys or such to revert to the defaults that were set when windows was installed.

I found a fix for my problem and perhaps it will work for others.
I found it at http://content.techweb.com/winmag/columns/insider/1999/1208.htm
Search for "SET WIN95 DEFAULT FOLDER ATTRIBUTES"
The section is near the end of the page.
The procedure described was for Windows '95, but it worked on my Windows '98 SE system.
Go to the desktop and double click the My Documents icon to open the folder.
Then right click on a blank area in the display area and set the view options you want - what type of view and sort order, etc.
Then, hold the SHIFT, CTRL, and ALT keys down and click the close box in the upper right hand corner of the window to close the window.
I found that this set all folders to the same options and solved my reverse alphabetic display problem in "open" windows in various programs.
