OK, maybe some future IE update will sort it out.

Do you recall doing anything immediately before this happened?

Does the computer now start normally again?

If this keeps happening and is not something you have done, then it might be best to return the computer to the provider as presumably you have a warranty.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Derek, the 1st. time I was ask to restart after a windows update. last night, a small screen came up in middle of screen that said IE is not working, so I clicked restart, and after10-15 min. I hit the off button, and started up again after a few min.. This has happened several times, and it has never restarted on its own. It has to be cut off, then hit the on/off button. Derek, it appears to me this would be Win. 8 instead of computer problem. Thanks for your reply.

I wonder if it was an IE update that caused this.

If you can get to IE then try IE Reset. I haven't got Win 8 in front of me but I suspect the way to do this is the same or similar:
Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > hit the Reset button. You might lose some custom settings and addons but these can easily be put back - that addons usually arriving again in time after usage.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Derek, I'm not sure I am replying correctly, its been a while since I've been on this site, and has been helpful in the past. I will try your suggestion when this happens again, since I have only had comp. for 10 days, and its taken all that time to get fav.,user, and pass. in plus many other items I would lose if I reset, I will wait until it happens again. I appreciate your time on this matter, and if problem persists I will try another post, and let you know. Thanks again
