canon cp-200 not seen as printer in windows 8

January 4, 2013 at 12:44:13
Specs: Windows 9, Core i7 / 16 GB
It shows up as a device and is correctly named, making me think it has a driver (Canon doesn't have one for Win8) but isn't seen as a printer and I can't print to it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Craig

No drivers we available for my Brother MFC-490CW printer either. I checked the Brother website and found nothing, but after I did the Windows updates I noticed that it detected my printer and automatically installed the correct driver. I restarted my PC and my printer was back online and working.

Have you tried your Windows updates? Keep in mind that the update may be under the "Optional" tab and not the "Important" tab, so you may have to manually select it.

I have it automatically installing updates and it is up to date. I don't have an "optional" tab.

Thanks, though! :)

Let's try something else. Go into your printer properties and go to the "Advanced" tab. You should see a driver pull-down window that shows you all the current printer drivers installed on your PC. Click on the "New Driver" button and search for your printer model number in the list and select it. I'm hoping that Windows has it listed for you there.

When I select Properties on the Canon CP-200 in my Device Manager, I get no 'Advanced' Tab. I get 'General', 'Driver', 'Details', and 'Events'. There is no driver installed because there isn't one available for this device in Win8 (or Win7 although I seem to remember using it in Win7...). I tried searching for a new driver when I first started and one isn't available.

Thanks!
