Windows Live Mail won't forward photos

July 18, 2011 at 18:32:12
Specs: Windows 7, 4 GB
When someone sends me an email with photos in the message and I forward it to others, the photos don't appear, just the outline of where the photos were and the red x in the box in the upper left corner.
Other emails come to me that way. But they'll show up on the same email in my Hot Mail inbox.
It seems the more you change the email and incorporate HotMail with Windows Live, the worse it gets. The "help" pages never have a solution, just other people griping about the same problem.

This link only pertains to Windows Live Hotmail, not Windows Live Mail as part of Windows Live Essentials 2011. My incoming mail arrives at Hotmail first. I rarely go there because I have to double click an icon on my desktop to get there. My WLM is open whenever my computer is on and I only have to click its icon on the taskbar once to have it handy. WLM is less screen-cluttered and has more convenient options. It just won't forward .jpg photos.

About the only thing that works with windows Live Mail is when you receive a picture
save it to your pictures and than insert it into an email weather it's a regular email
or a forward email.

I did that until I realized that Hot Mail will allow me to forward the emails with embedded pictures from the same emails that come to my Windows Live Mail. Either way, it was never a problem with Outlook Express or any form of Windows Mail before the 2011 edition. You'd think they'd correct this annoying feature.

Now I'm getting Hotmail with gray rectangles where photos ought to be. The photos appear in a horizontal row above the message with the option for Slide Show. Meanwhile, the captions or text below the gray rectangles are meaningless without the photos above.

I found a work around for the embedded picture problem when forwarding. When you put your pointer on "forward", there is an arrow at the bottom of the icon. Click it, "forward as attachment". This works everytime, forward to your self for testing. Good luck. Butch

I received my "forward as attachment" as a .eml file and that's been another problem. When I right click on the attachment, I then click on Open. It doesn't open, it just goes back to the just received page with the attachment ".eml". I have to go to Windows Hotmail in order to see it.

I understand kountryking, I have the same problem:
Back in the old days when I had WinXP and Outlook Express, I could select 'forward mail', delete any addresses in the header that I did not want to spread around the internet, and when I hit 'send' out it would go, just like it came in, pictures and all. Now that I have Win 7 and live mail, it has all turned to crap in the form of an error message saying "One or more pictures in this message could not be found." etc. If I send it as an attachment, all the pictures go out in the attachment, but so do all the forwarded inside addresses. If I do a stright forward, the pictures are taken out of the body, replaced by a box with a redX and they are set as thumbnails at the top of the message. This is a big step backwards. Is there a setting in Windows Live mail 2011 that I need to adjust or should I delete Live Mail and install Thunderbird as a coworker sugested? mikebravo 23Aug2011
