Thanks, I'm familiar with standard taskbar operations. The taskbar simply disappears and nothing but a re-boot solves the issue.
I wonder if the auto-hide is cutting in or has got in some sort of tizz. Try putting it on auto-hide then go back to the desktop.
Next, go back and take it out of auto-hide again.It's a long shot but perhaps it will make it stick.

Thanks Derek, I did try that as well, but when it disapperars - which is only once or twice in the course of the week - a reboot is the only thing I've found that resolves it.
It is setup for a dual monitor could that be related to the issue?
