Solved Windows 7 runs very slow after an hour of usage

January 15, 2013 at 13:19:53
Specs: Windows 7
I just checked and the physical memory usage is at 95%! The same programs are running since startup, when the physical memory usage is below 40%. What would use the memory all of a sudden and not stop until reboot? I can only use the laptop an hour at a time....

SOLVED - Thank you jowah

The Windows Media Player Network Service was taking over 1G of memory alone.

I went to service, clicked on services on the lower right, found it and right clicked, went to Properties. under General I disabled startup.

My computer is 100% again.

You can see which application is being a memory hog. Try using the task manager.

Right-click the windows toolbar in a blank spot
click 'Start Task Manager'
Select the "Processes" tab within the task manager
Click on the column header labeled "Memory (Private Working Set)" until the column is sorted by the biggest memory user.

Just monitor that until all of the memory is used up, and then you should have an idea of which application is leaking.

Are you surfing the internet during this time?

Might be worth checking for overheating too (often causes problems after about an hour), although I'm wondering why this would result in increased physical memory usage.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
