Windows 7 Password bypass at startup

April 9, 2010 at 01:16:40
Specs: Windows XP
The title may suggest a computer not owned by myself, yet this is not the case. I realize the question seems shady, and I wish that was not the case but I'm really stuck in a predicament here.

After a problem occurred on my new Samsung N140 (Windows 7) I restored to a previous date. All was succesful, but now it asks for a password at startup. I never set up a password to this computer before and am puzzled as to who the account actualy is (name is Richard, confused as to how it got there). Regardless, I need a way to bypass the Windows 7 startup password so I can access my computer again.

I've looked around yet come up empty handed, I know next to nothing of Windows 7 as I usually worked with XP. I'm not sure if it's possible to restore to factory settings or not as a last resort, I'd preferably avoid this if possible but unless there is no other option then that seems to be my last hope.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

-Windows 7 asks for password at startup (where you select an account)
-Do not have password, need a way to bypass
-Restore to factory settings perhaps a last resort

well, if you cannot get into the account, and the administrator account is not accessible on safe mode, then the only thing you really can do is either

1) use a live boot CD (such as hirens) and either crack or remove the password

2) format the PC (wipe everything back to default)

reboot, press F4, this will bring up the recovery partition options, so you should be able to restore to the factory model..

Have you tried simply pressing enter when asked for password?
It can happen that you are asked for one even if none has been selected and pressing enter allows log on.
If that's the case then once in Windows you can make the changes in the controll panel.

I'd be calling the folks I got it from and asking to speak with Richard.

Likely

I want to go like my grandfather did. Peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming at the top of my lungs like the passengers in his car.
