Solved Windows 7 .lnk file association problem

February 26, 2010 at 18:26:07
Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium

I have come to suffer from a .lnk malfuction.
Without realizing I used 'open with' to tell my windows that I wanted all my .lnk files to be opened through the computer game Sacred2.
I have searched various places for solutions and have seen most of the suggestions.
Running a .reg file with regedit corrections didn't help.
Trying to run a System Restore went bogus because of some 'unchangeable' file.
The only solution I found... or rather the only person I found who had found a solution was : KosovoJeSrbija
at this link: http://jogtheweb.computing.net/arti...
where he mentions a file called lnk_fix_w7.reg which I have not been able to find.

Please this matter is driving me insane :( I could really ude some help.

Even though I got an error message about my system using 'some of the keys', lnk_fix_w7.reg from said location; solved my problem perfectly.

Thanks a bunch Tufenuf, *Amazingly happy face* =D

abbasdjinn, The cause of that lnk file extension problem may have been caused by a virus or malware or using a registry cleaner type program or just some type of glitch like a bad uninstall of a program which removed a correct registry entry in error. It's hard to pin point what may have caused it. That lnk_fix_w7.reg file that you downloaded and merged into the registry put the proper registry keys (entrys) back into the registry.
