Comment:

I have installed Windows 7 on a new hard drive and while setting up the partitions it kept creating a partition of 100mb. Not wanting a partition of 100 mb I increased it to 130 GB, as well as setting up another couple of partitions. The partition of 130 GB does not appear in Windows 7 and I understand it is some type if reserved space I cannot access. Windows can keep its 100 mb but how do I get the rest of my 130 GB back?

First - read THIS to avoid making the same mistake again.

Second - nuke the HDD in order to kill the hidden 130GB system partition that cannot be otherwise retrieved & merged with Windows 7 partition.

Third - redo Win7 installation..

The disk management console is where you go to if something's not right with your partitioning. Go there & ensure your partition or volume allocation is configured correctly. As far as the 100mb "reserved" partition issue, it has nothing to do with your missing 130GB.

in disk management, i.e right click my computer/manage/disk management,
you will see the 130gig drive, 9probably thr 1st drive on disk 0) right click and reduce it to 100MB, that should fix your problem

:)

Not wanting the pennies in my pocket I threw away $100 dollar bills.

Try what princecorum suggested otherwise you may have to nuke it.

Thanks princecorum, I was able to reduce the partition back to 100 mb but how do I now allocate the 130 gb which is now showing in disk management as unallocated. If I right click on any of the other partitions the option to extend them is grayed out.

There are ways to add it but might be easier at this point just to make a new partition and use it

create a new drive with the 130 gigs, right click on the drive/create simple drive, format it to ntfs, then delete the volume, this should allow you to extend one of the other drives on that disk, should you be unable to expand, then either start from scratch or be happy with a 130gig drive and use it for storage..;-)

actually you should be able to just delete the unallocated volume and then be able to extend one of the other dives..try both, you have nothing to lose..;-)

the easiest way to do it would be to insert the disc boot the computer from it when your pc starts up then go to install windows and delete all the partitions and then carry on with installation as normal
