Hey all, I've just got done completing my PC, and now I need an operating system for it. I want to try out Windows 7 but there seems like there are so many versions of it and I'm not sure which one to pick. I would just like to go with the basic version of it, but should I go with the full version or the upgraded version? I've also heard that they made a system builder's version of it. Should I go with that? Thanks.

Win7 Home Premium should be adequate enough for you. There are several ways to acquire the license & the savings can vary significantly depending on where you get it from.

For example:

-- M$ is offering an upgrade license of Home Premium for as low as $30.00 to college students with a .edu email address.

-- They're also offering the Home Premium (3-User) family pack license for $150.00 on M$ Store.

-- Newegg also has on-sale -- until tomorrow -- Home Premium 32-Bit & 64-Bit (OEM) for $99.99 with free shipping using coupon codes: EMCMLNN26 (32-Bit) & EMCMLNN23 (64-Bit)

So, there you go.

The builder is if you also buy a qualified component, a bit cheaper but you may loose support.

Might see if there are keys still on the MS site. Any W7 RC dvd can be used to try it.

I doubt you have any need for the extra features. Most can be performed by other means if needed.

To qualify for an upgrade you are supposed to have a qualified prior os.

Too much trouble to list the specs?
