Windows 7 does not recognize hard drive

Upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. My fairly new external harddrive does not show up in "My Computer" or anywhere. It had no problems w/ being recognized with Vista. Any suggestions would be great.

Check the cable connections, try a different usb port, one of the rear one's would be best. If it still fails, can you try it on another computer to rule out hdd/cable fault.
I have no problems with any of my external sata or usb drives in W7.

quite a common problem with win7.
you should see it in disk disk management. if its there right click and format...assuming its empty.
after that you will see it
