Unlike Vista launch back in January 2007, there will be no human billboard like THIS when M$ kick off Win7 in New York City. The only thing M$ will do is ring the bell at NASDAQ. Any good reason(s) why the launch event will be a bit more subdued?

Speaking of Win7 kickoff events, it will be held at the AMC Empire 25 theatre on West 42nd Street in NYC. The kickoff event (see link below) clearly suggested that it will be a lot more subdued: For Vista, the launch was a gala affair consisting of food & giveaways.for the press & invited guests.

Well, if you had a product as poorly received as Vista was, you'd probably "draw in your horns" a little bit too.
I'm undecided about 7. It's going to be tough to justify it over XP (especially on dated hardware), at least until the first service-pack, anyway. And I'm usually one of the last to get on the bandwagon (didn't move up to XP until 2006)...

My thoughts? I think the reason why M$ decided for a more subdued Win7 kickoff is out of reverence for the much maligned The Wow starts now advertising campaign.

It may have been subdued here, but not in Japan. M$/BK had a Windows 7 'Whopper' campaign where the first 30 customers to order the roughly 3000 calories large combo gets it for only 777 yen ($8.50) ... now that's a WoW promotion.
