Comment:

I am running Vista with the Aero Interface just fine with my current configuration. The Windows 7 upgrade advisor tell me I wont be able to use the Win 7 Aero interface. Is it that much more complex than the Vista Aero? Is it possible that I could still use the Aero UI in Win7?

If it works in Vista it should work in Windows 7.
If you have "Windows 7" advisor it's only a beta version so I wouldn't worry.

You'll be fine.

Windows 7 is actually better when it comes to scalability. It (Windows 7) has been demonstrated to run smoothly on machines that Vista typically lagged on.

Thanks in part to increasing popularity of netbooks & perhaps M$' aggressive effort at continuous domination of the PC -- OS -- sphere. Some top priority was given to scalability when Windows 7 was being put together.

According to -- Brad Brooks -- one of their top spokespersons: Windows 7 was engineered to "have a smaller OS footprint; an improved user interface that should allow for faster boot-up and shut-down times; improved power management for enhanced battery life; enhanced media capabilities; and increased reliability, stability and security."

Redmond Translation: Let's make sure some generic Linux distro isn't given the opportunity to manifest itself as a viable or compelling option as the de facto OS on the emerging netbook platform!

It may be that the video driver you have is not supported for some reason (maybe not just yet) in W7.

The only way to tell is load it. Disconnect your current drive and buy a small drive to test.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

Yeah you'll be completely fine. I think Aero works a little better in 7 than it does in Vista.

I have this exact model and did the "RC" install the other day. I noticed that Aero was not running. Hit the help button and simply put in "aero" to search with. That led me to a troubleshooter that said something wasn't running and to click here to fix it. I did that and Aero lit right up! I have only done the Windows Updates on this system so far. There are SEVERAL that are needed for this model. I don't know if getting the latest/greatest drivers directly from NVidia would help.

There are two items that show as "unknown device" (one is a "coprocessor") that is NOT finding a driver on this model. I haven't dived into it much, but think it's related to the "NVidia nForce System Management Controller" based on the hardware string.

Vista dissed my machine when it came out, but I just installed Win7 and it is running like a CHARM! I think Redmond is getting it right this time. AMD 3600 running at 2200MHz with a new BFG GTX260 (helps, but the CPU score is still a 4.6 and vista gave it a 2.something).
I installed on a fully formatted second drive. Upgraders are asking for trouble IMHO. Most of the drivers were right on DVD, but a few things I had to use Vista drivers for (32 or 64 bit depending).
The Aero is smooth, and you can pick how much animation, shadows, and other stuff. You'll love it.
Just be sure you DON'T REACT HASTY to anything... If I ever boot into XP (Drive d: now) again it'll look like some old kinescope movie! :-)
