Maybe the data on the C drive is heavily fragmented, especially if you have never run the Disk Defragmenter. Run it now:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter.

Disable your antivirus temporarily before starting Disk Defragmenter, and don't use your PC until it has finished.

Remember to re-enable your antivirus when it's finished defragmenting.

If your "laptop" has an Atom CPU & Win7 Starter, it's not a laptop at all, it's netbook. Netbooks are designed for internet cruising & not much else. Have you loaded a bunch of programs on it that are bogging it down? Are you using a lightweight AV program such as Microsoft Security Essentials or an overweight resource hog such as McAfee or Norton?

Are you comparing your Asus laptop to someone else's laptop of the same brand and model and making your conclusion accordingly ? Or do you feel that it has become slower as compared to its performance two-three weeks ( sometime ) ago ?

Hi,

Run a test on the Hard Drive to confirm functionality. If you get any error code, make a note of the error code.

Check if the antivirus software has detected any virus/ malware/ spyware, if yes proceed with the Antivirus/Spyware/Malware troubleshooting.

Limit how many programs run at startup by using “Autoruns” or “msconfig”.
Auto Runs: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...

Try running the below mentioned troubleshooters which could fix the problem:
1. http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=974...
2. http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=974...
3. http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=974...

If the issue still persists, then try creating a New User account and check if the symptom appears in the New User account or not.

Keep us posted

Thanks & Regards
