Hi. I am asking here as this website has
always given me the best answers. I'm
upgrading to windows 7 and for the first time
going with a 64 bit :) So though I would get
some new hardware to go with the upgrade but
have a few questions I hope some cleaver
people on here can answer for me.First question is about compatibility.
Will a ASUS Striker NSE motherboard which
has a NVIDIA nForce 790i SLI chipset run a
ATI Radeon HD 5870, just a single one not
crossfire?Question 2
If it does, which is better a Nvidia 285 or Radeon HD 5870. I personally have never had an proper
ATI graphics card and although the benchmarks say the 5870 is better in the real world I find that the specs never hold up?Thanks to all who help and I hope I have put
this in the right section

Check for drivers for your peripheral hardware and also to see if your programs are compatible with Windows 7, either 32 or 64 bit.

Why not just install Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor (download it from HERE)? It scans your hardware, devices, and installed programs for known compatibility issues, gives you guidance on how to resolve potential issues found, and recommends what to do before you upgrade.

My question was not if the hardware was compatible with
windows 7 as i know it all is. My question is if the hardware is compatible with each other. Thanks again

Your post infers you are concerned about compatibility with Windows 7.
As to what hardware to buy that question is too vague. You need to set a budget and then state what you use your computer for.

Ok I will try make a little clearer:
1. Will a ATI card work with a Nvidia chipset board
2. Which is better ATI Radeon HD 5870 or Nvidia GTX 285.
my budget for the cards is around £300. Use A mix of high
graphics gaming and use of high level graphics packages such
as Photoshop CS4.Thanks again

"1. Will a ATI card work with a Nvidia chipset board "
Yes. I'm not sure about the answer to 2, but you can certainly find a lot of reviews of the Nvidia GTX 285, and I guess for the ATI Radeon HD 5870, though that's newer. Also, can you give some specs on your psu ?
