Comment:

using countif on a column made up of figures from using the LEFT(cell ref..). I have column M that is picking up the left hand digit from column G. I am then using the countif on column M and it is not working. Can anybody tell me why. I have checked the formatting already.

Thanks

Worked for me.

Column G

cell g1 12345
cell g2 23456
cell g3 12345

Column M
cell m1 formula =left(g1,2) gave 12
cell m2 formula =left(g2,2) gave 23
cell m3 formula =left(g3,2) gave 12

Cell M5
=countif(M1:M3,23) gives 1

Cell M6
=countif(M1:M3,12) gives 2

What kind of error are you getting?

Also for future reference, Excel questions are best asked in the Office Software forum.
