If you have your original Windows Vista disk, get the upgrade.

The only difference is with the less expensive "upgrade", you MUST have an original Vista disk in hand.

You can and should do a format and fresh install with the Upgrade disk.

For one, the Upgrade version typically cost less than the Full version. So, any normal person would want to go for the cheaper option, if possible. And to make this possible, you must have a machine that legaly qualifies for an Upgrade license. If you do, there's not much compelling reason to pay more money for a Full version since there's arguably no difference between the two versions once the installation is completed.

Good luck!

i would add, an upgrade will be fine, and once upgraded make a full backup of your system to a partition/usb stick or dvd, so that you can install your new win7 without the messing around with installing vista 1st etc etc, i like acronis for this, but there are many tools out there that will do this for you..

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
