I have a Dell Studio running win 7. If I leave my laptop for an hour or so the screen dims, no problem, it should do this. But, it never goes back bright for sometimes a week. how can I get it bsck normal? thanks for any ideas

On battery or a/c power? The screen brightness can be adjusted separately for both battery & a/c power in Control Panel.
If only half of the screen is affected, it could mean the backlight or inverter board are faulty.
Thanks for trying to help with this one. This time it was on power, not battery. I thought about backlight also, but the mistry is why will it work at all going back to normal? I have checked adjustments. I know it sounds dumb, but it is just like you flip a switch and it only works part of the time!! It is almost back to normal now, just a little darker.
Thanks
Jim B.
Hi, Did u you try booting in "Safe Mode"? If not, then try to boot your system in "Safe Mode". Check if yoir computer works fine in Safe Mode or not.
You can even try reinstalling the Video driver from http://www.dell.com/support/drivers...
If the issue still persists and If this issue started occurring after doing some recent software changes on your computer, then I would suggest you to restore your system back to a date when it was working fine. System Restore will affect Windows system files, programs, and registry settings only.
Hope this helps.
Thanks & Regards

Maybe your screen of the laptop went wrong. You should go the professional and revise it.
