So I've installed Windows 7 RC and thought everything went well. Until the computer went Idle. Two differnt problems happen. One, when the computer comes out of Idle and the screen is black but I can move the mouse around. Or my desktop backgound comes up but nothing else. Again my mouse works and I can even right click but only the widgets option works. The only way I've found a work around is to put the computer back to idle and try again; eventually after doing this several times I can select my profile and all is well. I have no clue how to fix this however. This problem also happens after a restart.

Thanks!

Anything in the event logs?

Use perfmon on remote machine to watch resources.

As with all OS's your motherboard may not be supported. A chip or groups of chips that worked just fine with XP, and Vista may not support W7. Also drivers and other settings may cause that.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

List your system specification. For now, try to update your display drivers. Oh & BTW, do you run into this issue every time your system goes into idle & just when you have something running in the background?

There are two potential fixes for this issue.

One involves modifying your BIOS
SATA settings: http://windowsfixup.com/2009/05/win...

The other involves disabling the
event log: http://windowsfixup.com/2009/05/windows-vista-starts-up-with-a-black-screen-and-cursor-ksod-fix/

Let me know if either of these works.

One point of clarification: For http://windowsfixup.com/2009/05/win...
by "Next check your HDD or storage settings. Turn off SATA and reboot normally." I would assume that MS means change the SATA mode to IDE rather than AHCI ?
