okay so i have my windows 7 so that it will go into standby after 45 minutes. However after it goes into standby 9times out of 10 it will completely shut the computer off. Although this isn't a major problem i think it kinda defeats the purpose of standby if it just shutdown the computer. my theory is is that going into standby somehow crashes it.
after my computer goes into "standby" everything (keyboard and mouse) becomes unresponsive and i have to push the power button on my computer and it wills start to turn on, however as it turns on it reports the windows has shut down improperly thing and i have to choose "start Windows Normally". I am using a dell gx280 all the hardware in it is what came from the manufacturer, is it possible this is a problem with my drivers?

When you installed the OS was it clean or an upgrade from Vista? I know I keep asking questions.
I'd also look at bios. It might be that your power management setting is off (as in not correct) or not fully supported or something. Not easy to fix, sometimes requires you change bios setting and then reload the OS to get correct acpi.
Also look at event logs. They made it difficult to view too.

okay i don't know what to look for in the bios but i know that it did work before when i had windows 7 rc. i checked the event logs and discovered that it just stopped being on didn't make any logs before it crashed

IMHO standby is basically meant for laptops, I would never use it on a desktop.
Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

I was gonna say the same thing. Disable it - problem solved.
