Soundmax problem with headphones

Specs: Windows 7
Hi there,

just wanted to see if you could help.
I have a compaq presario R3000 running Windows 7 with soundmax integrated digital audio installed.
the sound on my laptop is working fine but I want to use the headphones jack which when plugged in works but sound comes out the speakers aswell. there doesn't seem to be a jack detection and the soundmax control panel doesn't recognise the soundmax audio 'no soundMAX audio is present' 'you cannot use soundMAX audio control panel' I have uninstalled and check everything I can think of... this one has me stumped.

please help if you can..

The newer drivers do not work and I have tried it in compatability mode. just seems to be that there is no jack detection.
