Only some pps (ppt) files - downloaded from mail attachment - can not be opened on PC with Win 7 and office 2003 (it is asking for parole to open). The same file can be opened on a PC with Win XP.
Are the PowerPoint files created with a newer version of the Microsoft Office Suite, IE. Office 2007 or 2010? If so, they may not be backwards compatible.
The bots PC have MS Office 2003.
I have tried on PC with Win7, PowerPoint-Viewer-2007 and still not working. I will try with other new viewer...I have tried also KingSoftOffice-ppt - the same...
The problem is the same after downloading pps and after converting to ppt.
Try downloading openoffice.org (free download) and see if it can open it. If it can, you may also be given a few options if you try to resave it (save as) in a more compatible format (I know that Openoffice Writer offers a few versions of Word like Word '97/XP, Word 2003, etc. as well as other text document formats).
http://www.openoffice.org/The difference may be in that the one installation of Office may have a compatibility patch installed without you realizing it. This patch may be available on MS Office site and/or through Windows Update under the optional updates.
You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
I have not tried yet the openoffice.org. But I wont to add some details of the problem:
So with the same MS Office 2003 on both PC: one with Win XP and the other one with Win 7 Professional, the same pps is opening on PC with Win HP but it cannot be opened on PC with Win 7. It appears the window that asks for a parole.
If I convert the pps file to ppt file on PC with Win HP an a try to open this ppt file, appears the window that ask for parole, but there is a button with the option to "open as read only". Pressing this button, the ppt file is opening.
I think this and other pps are some how encrypted and can be modified only if are opened with a parole (is a read only document). What I'm not understanding is why on PC with Win 7 it cannot open the pps and ptt (converted) doc. (for ppt file, did not appear the option to open as read only; it ask only for parole!). The problem still remained even after I have re-installed the same MS Office 2003. I think is a problem of the Operating System (Win 7), not a problem of MS Office.
I give up! I can solve the problem with the old PC with Win HP....
I thank you for the advices.
Try using gmail and see if it reads the pps files. I think it will open them fine. Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions 7 Golds
