Check HCL. If not there then you can try to boot and see. If not then you need a driver unless you wish to set bios to IDE mode. "Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

If you want to run in SATA II I think you need the SATA controller drivers.

There is no need to run SATA drivers unless you are going to do RAID. Iron Sharpens Iron.
