recycle bin icon missing from desktop

Try removing the check from the box next to Recycle Bin, then click Apply. Reboot, then recheck the box & click Apply.

With Recycle Bin's desktop icon enabled under Personalize, right click on the desktop and select Refresh. If that doesn't work, open windows explorer, navigate to the Desktop folder (at the top of the folder tree, not in the Users folder below) and see if Recycle Bin is listed among the folders there.

Hi all Thanks for the replies! I stumbled on the solution by accident. When I right clicked on the desktop, I noticed the word "view" in the window that popped up. I selected it and found that "show desktop icons" was not checked. Once I put a check mark by it, all the desktop icons magically appeared. Duh.... Apparently, at some point, I decided that I didn't want my desktop cluttered and unchecked it. Thanks for your help.
