Num Lock will go off every so often.

August 28, 2010 at 21:08:48
Specs: Windows 7

Every once in awhile I'll go to hit a number on the Number Key Board and nothing happens. I look over and the Num Lock key is turned off. It's not a big deal but it never happened on my old computer.
Is there another way to fix this problem without going into Bios or messing with the registry?

You could be hitting the Num Loc key accidently, or you could have a problem with your keyboard. I doubt that it is related to windows or your BIOS if it is on when you start your computer. Try borrowing another keyboard and try it for a day or two.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.

Are you using any virtualisation software, or connecting to virtual machines? I had the same problem and realised it was because I switched to VM's that had numlock turned off

I'm getting it too. Several times I've watched it turn off by itself - most commonly when I'm creating a PDF document with CutePDF writer. Has happened a few times without using that software too so I don't think CutePDF is the problem. I was wondering if it's an issue with moving in and out of separate process environments where numlock may have different states - similar to the virtualisation comment above, but more in the context of an "application environment".
