Have you done the Windows 7 updates ? After that, try the optional updtaes as well-it might contain the correct sound driver.

Look also for Vista drivers for your hardware.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

I installed Windows 7 onto a computer that didn't even have Vista drivers for it. I downloaded the XP drivers and then right click the file then opened in compatibility mode, told windows it worked in XP, everything sailed through! Sound is now working! I did the same with the graphics drivers. You don't mention your make of computer, this was on old IBM using Sound Max sound chip and Intel graphics.

And we can carry that back to Windows 2000 drivers might work in some cases.

Also go into sound devices and make sure your sound device is set as default. My audigy se installed fine and all windows sounds worked but wmp and dvds didn't until I took it off digital media device and set my card as default.

on the road again!!

try:
control panel/device manager/click on sounds, right click your sound card, and choose uninstall, then right click on the computer icon (1st icon at the top of list) and choose "scan for hardware changes" this should reinstall your sound drivers and hopefully the best ones. hope this helps
