My acer laptop wont shut down

Do you get any messages on the screen when attempting to shut down? Does it power up only when depressing the On switch?

Have you tried just pressing the power button for about 15 seconds and allowing it to power down? Sounds like you are letting it sleep or hibernate.... Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions 7 Golds

i don't get any messages, i press power button for 2 mins still don't switch off, only the screen but the laptop is still running, the only way it will go off is to take power lead out and battery.

as for sleep in power options it is set for when i press power buttons (shut down) when i press the sleep button (sleep) when i close lid ( shutdown) have any one any more ideas, thanks, ken.

it starts up normal no problems it just wont shut down.

Try running CAT.exe Tool from this link, it may help: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cri... Run it, on the first window select "Adjustments" on the lefthand side. Check mark "Fix Shutdown" and the click the "Apply Checked Fixes" button. Please reply and let us know if our help worked. Your feedback helps others. Maybe you?
