Since the free version of Daemon tools doesn't apparently work in Windows 7, what free software are you using to mount ISO images?

I know Virtual PC can mount ISOs, but that only makes them available to the guest OS. I am referring to mounting ISO (or other image files) so that they are easily accessible.

Yeah, I saw that, but there are also quite a few posts in the Daemon forums about that not working and claiming 4305 does work. As of right now, 4305 is Pro only. Anyhow, I'm downloading the installer right now and I'll find out if it works I guess.

Summary: You could try to get it to work. You'd have to mount the iso image to get the files off. A usb "how to" makes an assumption that you already have vista or W7 working already to issue the newer command...
