I had no problems syncing my ipod touch 1G in Win Vista. I did a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit on a new Maxtor HD and the system is nice and responsive....except for itunes 9. I can connect my ipod no problem but when I try to sync it disconnects within about a minute of starting the sync. I get various messages about timing out/unable to read, write etc. I also get the USB disconnect sound so it is as if the ipod is being disconnected or not being recognised during the sync. Worse still, the system becomes very unresponsive with the mouse freezing or moving erattically until I reboot where all is well again. I installed 64 bit itunes and I have tried various suggestions: uninstall all Apple apps then reinstall, run as Admin or under Vista compatibility but none of them work. I don't think it is hardware as everything ran fine on the same machine running Vista 32 bit. Any ideas guys? I cannot use the ipod at the minute.

when i did a x64 update,itunes was classed as "incompatible" with win 7 and i had to uninstall before it would carry on, so i suggest you uninstall untill an update arrives. i hate computers! but cant help myself....

I have 64 bit itunes and had no warnings about incompatibilty...just syncing problems. Of course, I did a fresh install. I see on the net that there are quite a few people having problems with itunes and win7.

Are you trying to sync or just copy music and photos to your iPod. If you're just trying to copy music and photos, have a look at this software. it works way better than iTunes for adding songs and photos and backing up. it's also free and works as a standalone program so no installing is nessessary. http://www.getsharepod.com/about/

i agree with splinters, i have exact same situation.. i am using win7 ultimate 64 bit , everything seems fine with the itune 9.0.2. until i start syncing with lots of video podcast ( about 1 to 2Gb).. then problem comes, i did tried just 1 podcast ,, just problem ,, error message,, always say my iphone sync time out , or even sy i don;t have the privilleges to certain folder.. .. very awk situation,, and i can prove it it's a win7 with itune,, reason, once i use my other PC with windows XP,, everything work fine. so it's win7 , i bet it's the 64bit, i kind of giving up on these except wait for next itune,, new OS , always can't blame on Apple or microsoft.
